Middle East supply return sends Asian LDPE film markets sharply lower

A major supply-side shift is driving a sharp repricing across Asian LDPE film markets, as the return of a key export source dismantles the war-risk premium that had underpinned sentiment through much of the first half. A Thai producer led the move with steep offer cuts to multiple destinations, drawing selective buying but broadly deepening caution among import-side players already wary of further downside.

Suppliers from multiple origins have re-entered the bidding process for forward shipments into China even ahead of formal price lists, signalling that supply gaps created by months of Middle Eastern disruption are closing faster than many had anticipated. Competitively priced cargoes from additional origins are adding a second layer of pressure.

STATISTICS ·  CHINA

China polymer industry in May faced converging headwinds as war premium unwinds

Across China's PP, PE, and PVC segments, a common inflection point is taking shape as the supply disruptions that had distorted regional trade flows through much of the first half begin to reverse. Domestic consumption across all three segments remains well below year-earlier levels, with demand-side weakness that had been obscured by Hormuz-driven tightness now increasingly exposed as regional supply returns to circulation.

Export volumes, which had surged as Chinese producers filled the regional supply gap left by the Gulf disruptions, are showing early signs of deceleration across the board as competing origins re-enter the market and erode the price incentive sustaining outbound flows. Supply-side adjustments, whether through production cuts or maintenance-driven output reductions, have so far failed to provide durable price support against the backdrop of chronically weak end-user demand.
