In spite of the raging COVID-19 outbreak, a major local producer in Indonesia lifted spot offers for most of the PE cargoes to reflect the development in the import market while holding PP largely stable.

Indonesian customers maintain a calm stance towards the latest price list while continuing to source hand-to-mouth from the distribution market, where traders are more willing to negotiate with serious buyers to deplete the on-hand inventories. 

“We think the producer is overconfident in the market’s ability to accept the increases. The actual demand is very weak,” a market source reported. 

Indonesia might be extend the lockdown in Java and Bali until 17 August to curb the current outbreak. On 11 July 2021, the country’s daily caseload surge to 36,197 – the highest number since the outbreak
