Following the firming trend pioneered by a major Taiwanese producer in the previous week, three PVC producers in Southeast Asia has also lifted January shipment offers by $20-30/ton month on month to Malaysia.
The latest price list from these makers stands in the range $890-895/ton, CIF Malaysia, LC AS term.
Malaysian converters are showing little rush in making replenishment citing the soft end product demand condition and uncertain economic outlook. “It is the raining season and the construction sector places fewer orders than usual. We are negotiating with the supplier for some discounts though we were informed about the tight supply condition, especially from the Indonesian producer,” a pipe and profile maker commented.
Meanwhile, major Indonesian producer informed about the restart of the VCM plant last week and currently working to clear backlogs. “That is why we are not having sufficient export quantity this month. Supply might only come back normal in the following month,” a source close to the producer added.
