Emergency shutdown at India's Reliance PP, HDPE/LLDPE plant

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has encountered an unexpected technical glitch at its petrochemical complex that forced the company to declare emergency shutdown at one of the PP lines and one HDPE/LLDPE swing line.

It is unknown about the scale of the damage; however, sources expected the two units to remain off-line until end of August 2018. The two lines have an annual capacity of 250,000 tons/year for PP and 600,000 tons/year for HDPE/LLDPE.

In the meantime, the company’s other PP line with a nameplate capacity of 250,000 tons/year is currently operating at 50 per cent rate. Export allocation is expected to be affected, market sources informed.
