According to media reports, the Turkish government is planning to impose countermeasures against 22 import products from the USA after President Donald Trump slammed tariffs on Turkish steel and aluminium imports. These new measures would come into effect on 21 June 2018 unless the USA abolishes the tariffs.

Besides major products such as whiskeys and automobiles, which are facing 40 per cent and 35 per cent additional customs duties respectively, import PVC from the USA is tagged with 32 per cent in additional duty.

At the moment, import PVC from the USA to Turkey is subjected to 6.5 per cent import duties and 18.81 per cent anti-dumping duties. Import duties for this origin to Turkey would go up to 38.5 per cent by 21 June 2018 while antidumping duties remain in place.

Turkey is the third largest PVC importer in the world just behind India and China, buying approximate 820,000 tons in 2017 alone. USA is the second largest PVC exporter to Turkey with 122,000 tons, accounted for 15 per cent of the country’s total PVC import.
