Import PP, PE to China fell drastically in February 2018

The Chinese Custom Department has released import data for February 2018, and to no surprise, import PP and PE to the country fell significantly compared to the previous month. This partially due to the long Lunar New Year holiday, which took place from 15 to 21 February 2018. Besides, continuous hiking import offers months earlier also discouraged buyers from taking large quantity.

Among all the polyolefin grades, HDPE and PP witness the deepest dive in term of import arrival. The following graphs visualised the drop. In spite of the drastic reduction in arrival quantity, PP and PE market in China persist in a relatively weak condition in the post-holiday term and until the time this report is published, overseas sellers are still cutting prices in order to stimulate demand.
