November import statistics show resilient PP, PE demand in China

Official import statistics for PP and PE to China in November released by the Chinese Custom Department showed considerable demand recovery in the country, which is in line with the year-end preparation activities.

Import homo-PP to China endures the growing path, though the rate is much smaller compared to PE; local production is way stronger. It appears that Chinese suppliers are expanding effort in seeking export destinations, reflecting in higher export quantity. Just yet, apparent demand still enjoys an increase on 9.37%.

The PE sector is enjoying a robust growth rate in term of both domestic production and import quantity. Apparent demand growth rate for PE stand at 11.55% year on year (as shown in the following diagram). Market sources are expecting to see continued healthy demand for PE in first half of 2018 especially with recent news regarding a dramatic slumped in import plastic scraps, which might keep recycle sector way from recovery.
