Chevron Phillips completed mechanical work at new cracker in Texas

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron Phillips Chemical) announced earlier this week that its ethane cracker at Cedar Bayou in Baytown is mechanically completed. The unit is currently undergoing system checks and final certifications before becoming operational. The cracker using ethane gas as feed, is designed to produce 1.5 millions tons of ethylene per annum.
The project broke ground in 2014, and was originally slated to come online in late 2017. However, Hurricane Harvey caused delays and now the ethane cracker is projected to start up in the first half of 2018.
Another part of Chevron Phillips Gulf Coast investment program includes two polyethylene units in Old Ocean, Texas, which have started up in September 2017.
To ensure reliable delivery, the company has also purchased 3,000 newly built rail cars and constructed a state-of-the-art storage-in-transition facility to ship polyethylene via rail to customers both domestically and to ports for export around the globe.
