According to market sources, Rayong Olefins Co has unexpected shutdown its naptha cracker on 6 September 2017 due to an unspecified techincal issue. The cracker is able to produce 400,000 tons/year of propylene and 800,000 tons/year of ethylene. The restart date remains unsure at the moment.

Rayong Olefins Co is supply monomers to its parents company - SCG Chemical, in which sources are expecting HDPE production rate would be affected by the shutdown. SCG own four HDPE lines in Map Ta Phut with combined capacity of 980,000 tons/year. The company has not been able to fulfill market requirement for HDPE over the past several weeks owing to unstable production condition.
