According to market sources, Thailand’s SCG Chemicals encountered an unexpected technical issue at its HDPE plant last night, 28 June 2017 that forced the company to declare emergency shutdown at HDPE4 unit.

As reported earlier, SCG has been operating its HDPE plant at lower rate over the past couple of weeks due to issues at ethylene pipeline that cause feedstock disruption. HDPE4 is the largest unit with annual capacity of 400,000 tons/year, producing mainly HDPE film and blow moulding grade. It is unclear on how long SCG might take to bring the line back on-stream.

A source close to the producer informed, “We are still evaluating the impact of the shutdown on the supply and we fear that export allocation for August will also be affected.”

Bases in Map Ta Phut, Thailand, SCG own four HDPE lines with combined capacity of 980,000 tons/year.
