In the latest statement posted on its official portal website, world’s largest container shipping line – Maersk announced that the company is suspending shipment between Qatar and UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and Yemen as a result of escalated political tension amongst these countries.

Besides, as DP World Jebel Ali and Abu Dhabi Terminals no longer accept cargo to/from Qatar ports (including trans-shipment cargo), Maersk will also temporarily closed bookings for cargo from rest of the world that trans-ship over Jebel Ali.

However, the company added that it is seeking alternative solutions to ensure smooth movement of cargoes and would communicate to its customers within 48 hours.

As reported earlier, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and Yemen cut all diplomatic ties with Qatar after accusations that the Qatari government supports terrorism. As a result all ports across Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are closed to Qatari ship until further notice.
