Fire hit Korea's Hanwha Chemical, PE unit forced to shut

According to market sources, a fire broke out at Hanwha Chemical plant in Yeosu, South Korea on Tuesday morning, forcing the company to take one out of two LDPE/EVA lines at the site off-stream as a precaution measure. The swing line has annual capacity of 100,000 tons/year.
There is no major damage at the plant as the fire was put out very quickly, sources said, yet it is still uncertain on how long the company would keep the unit offline. Meanwhile, the second swing line, which is able to produce approximate 230,000 tons/year of LDPE/EVA, is not affected by the event.
