India's OPaL to restart new cracker production within this week

Market sources reported that ONGC Petro additions Limited (OPaL) has unexpectedly shut its cracker for the past 12 days due to some technical issues and waiting for the spare part of compressor airlifted from Japan.

A source closed to the company informed that the spare part has finally arrived hence the commissioning of the cracker will start again by this week, with the expectation of on-spec upstream monomers to be produced and on-spec polyolefins are expected by December.

The newly developed petrochemical complex based in Dahej Special Economic Zone, Gujarat, India also consist of a cracker which produce 1.1 million ton/year of ethylene, 400,000 ton/year of propylene. The PE plant houses two HDPE/LLDPE swing units with total capacity of 720,000 tons/year and a stand-alone HDPE unit with capacity of 340,000 tons/year and the PP plant has a production capacity of 340,000 ton/year.

OPaL is a joint venture of Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC) (26%), Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) (17%) and Gujarat State Petroleum Corp. (GSPC) (5%), with the balance held by other investors and public shares.
