Local producer suspends PE offerings while lifting PP in Indonesia

A key Indonesian producer has announced a fresh weekly price list with minor increases on PP cargoes while continuing to skip PE offering, a move the market deems to tighten spot availability that would push prices higher in the near term.

Since last Friday, the producer has stopped all offers for PE. Besides, it is reported that the maker also cuts contract allocation by 10% for PE and between 10-20% for PP starting this week.
“Contract prices could be too low to cover the recent rising upstream costs. Buyers might turn to the distribution market to cover the shortfall, but we do not expect any major changes in terms of demand ahead,” a trader commented.
Indonesian customers have been shy from off-taking import PE cargoes over the past couple of weeks citing the availability of competitive local cargoes. With the producers suspended local offers, players are watching out for the return of Indonesian customers to the import ground.
