TODAY’S DEVELOPMENTS
POLYPROPYLENE · INDONESIA
Domestic major cuts PP prices, raising questions over broader market reversal
After weeks of steady price gains, a major domestic producer in Indonesia has sharply reduced its spot PP offers in response to sluggish buying interest and a steep correction in upstream feedstock markets. The move has prompted market participants to question whether the reduction represents a routine adjustment to changing market fundamentals or marks the beginning of a broader price reversal as tensions between the US and Iran ease once again.
Attention is now focused on developments in the Middle East and movements in the naphtha market, both of which are expected to shape near-term pricing direction. While the recent easing of geopolitical tensions has weakened upstream cost support, the highly fluid nature of the Iran conflict, together with persistent logistical disruptions affecting Middle Eastern exports, could limit the scope for a sharp correction in Indonesia's domestic PP market. As a result, many market participants believe the rapid price declines seen during the April–June period are unlikely to be repeated unless supply conditions improve more materially.

Saudi HDPE discounts revive Chinese buying interest
Despite constrained spot availability and ongoing shipping disruptions, a major Saudi Arabian producer stepped up efforts to attract Chinese buyers by lowering HDPE film offer prices in the middle of the week. The strategy appeared to gain traction, suggesting sellers are becoming more flexible in response to subdued import demand.
A healthy volume of transactions was concluded at the revised price levels, indicating that the discounts brought imported cargoes back within buyers' acceptable range. The development has prompted market participants across Asia to closely monitor demand for other PE grades in China, as broader buying interest could help determine whether the import market is approaching a near-term price floor.
