After an ambitious hike introducing on the 23 January 2019 for February shipment, a Saudi Arabia producer is forced to step back on the price list given the strong resistant from the Vietnamese buyers.

Sources seem to show better acceptance for the HDPE blow molding cargoes, citing the competitiveness. In the meantime, remain very conservative about other grades, even after the adjustment.
“We most probably cannot accept the HDPE film cargoes given the availability of more competitive Thailand material. In the meantime, purchasing interest for homo-PP also drop once prices hit the $1100/ton mark,” a buyer reported.
In fact, Vietnamese buyers constantly comparing deep-seas HDPE film cargoes with the deal-done for Thailand origin at $1050-1060/ton CIF Vietnam this week. This is acting as a benchmark for the customers in negotiating for discounts before the Lunar New Year festival.
