Following an extended period of keeping offers above the $1300/ton threshold, a major Taiwanese maker has finally agreed to larger than usual discount to smoothen sales for HDPE film to China, sources said on Saturday, 15 September 2018.

More than 1000 tons of this cargo has been sold to Chinese traders at the price level $1290/ton LC AS and $1300/ton LC 90 days term, CFR China term, indicated $25-35/ton reduction from the initial price list.

“Our principal supplier might be facing pressure from a widespread slow down in demand across the region. At the moment, we are offering to buyers at $1310/ton CFR China, LC AS for the same cargoes,” a trader purchased the material said. 

Import HDPE film to Asia, including China, Southeast Asia, and India has been inching lower despite the fact that supply has not shown any significant improvement. Buyers are expecting further reduction in the near term though the manufacturing season has started.
