The USA Department of Commerce on 7 August 2018 announced the preliminary determination of the countervailing duty (CVD) investigation in the import of laminated woven sacks from Vietnam.
The preliminary determination rules out that a countervailing duty of 3.24 – 6.15% shall be applied on various laminated woven sacks makers from Vietnam. The final decision will be announced on 18 December 2018.
The Department of Commerce initiated the investigation in March 2018 after two petitioners Polytex Fibers Corporation and ProAmpac Holdings Inc. filed a complained in the same month.
In a separate development, the Department of Commerce is also carrying out an anti-dumping investigation on import woven bags and flexible packaging from Vietnam. The preliminary results shall be announced on 3 October 2018.
