A major Singaporean producer reportedly lifted metallocene PE (mPE) prices to China by $20/ton from last week on the back of stronger upstream costs, sending latest offers to $1370-1380/ton CFR China, LC AS term. Very limited number of deals is observed, as sentiment in China has been calm throughout the past three sessions ahead of the ChinaPlas Exhibition.
“Customers are very reluctant and with the agricultural film season comes to an end, we are talking to flexible packaging converters to close some deals, and it is still the traditional low demand season in this sector,” a distributor informed.
In Indonesia, the producer decides to maintain prices stable at $1410/ton CIF Indonesia, LC AS term citing the lack of sales pressure. While demand for PE in Indonesia has improved visibly over the past several days, buyers are very cautious about making replenishment. “We might negotiate for $20-30/ton discount before making a small purchase. The current level is too high,” a converter informed.
