It is reported that an explosion occurred at Indian Oil Corp plant in Panipat at about 12.50pm on 22 January 2018, killing one and injured several others. The cause of the incident is indentified as a result of a gas leak in catalyst plant of the naphtha cracker and it blew off the roof of the plant.
The company’s officials are not available for any media inquiries at the moment and it is unclear on how severe is the damages caused the plant. More updates would become available soon.
The cracker is able to produce 800,000 tons/year of ethylene, 600,000 tons/year of propylene, 125,000 tons/year of benzene, and other products.
