It is reported that PT Lotte Chemical Titan Nusantara has restarted the HDPE unit (PE 1) after three weeks maintenance shutdown starting on 7 December 2017. Meanwhile, its PE 3 units, which produces LLDPE grades remain offline since the maintenance work took place on 15 December 2017. It is still unclear at the moment on to when the company plan to bring LLDPE line on-stream.
A source close to the producer said, “Ethylene costs are too high at the moment and it make no economical sense for us to run the plant, especially with the current LLDPE prices. We have yet to set the restart date for this line.”
PT Lotte Chemical Titan Nusantara has nameplate capacity of 200,000 tons/year of LLDPE and 250,000 tons/year of HDPE.
The unexpected prolong shutdown at the producer’s LLDPE production stirred market concern over the tightening supply condition for this grade in local ground, causing a drastic surge in offers from other suppliers in the previous session.
