USA looks into possible tariffs on import washing machine

Based on a report on Wall Street Journal, the USA Federal trade regulator has suggested to the current government administration that tariffs of 50 per cent should be imposed on imported washing machines. The recommendation follows a finding in October that surge in imports caused severe injury to domestic producers including Whirlpool.

The Federal trade would summit the official recommendation to the Administration by early December and final decision on whether trader barriers would be in place shall be announced in two months.

The South Korean manufacturers i.e. Samsung and LG are highly against the recommendation saying that “the new trade barrier could limited consumer choice, increase prices and stifle US job growth.” The country even threaten to file a formal complain to the World Trade Organization and would cooperate with Vietnam and other washer exporters to fight any possible US violation of WTO rules.

Washing machine uses plastic application such as PP block copolymer and ABS.
