After initiated an investigation on 17 October 2017, the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) on 8 November 2017 has announced the final findings on dumping activities alleged on import PET from five countries. The USITC determined that there is a ‘reasonable indication’ that import polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin from Brazil, Indonesia, Korea, Pakistan, and Taiwan are sold in less than fair value in the USA, harming the domestic industry.
The USITC finalised the antidumping rates for mandatory respondent in each of the mentioned exporters as following:
This means that USA Department of Commerce will continue with the antidumping duty investigations, and the preliminary antidumping duty determinations due on or about 5 March 2018 with final determinations to follow on 21 May.
In a petition filed by USA local PET producers, including DAK Americas, Indorama Ventures, M&G Polymers and Nan Ya Plastics, claimed that import PET volume from Brazil, Indonesia, Korea, Pakistan, and Taiwan surged 305% from 2014 to 2016.
