Emergency shutdown of Iran's Ilam HDPE plant

According to market sources, Ilam Petrochemical Co has unexpectedly shut its HDPE plant since beginning of the week due to insufficient supply of ethylene.

Based in Ilam, Iran, the HDPE plant has a production capacity of 300,000 tons/year. It is expected to remain off-stream for around a month. The company’s initial plan of new 450,000 tons/year of ethane cracker startup has been postponed since 2015 until further notice, while the current HDPE plant is sourcing upstream supply from Kavian Petrochemical Co.
