South Korea's Hanwha shut naphtha cracker after lightning strike

It is reported that South Korea's Hanwha Total took its naphtha cracker in Daesan off-stream on Monday, 17 July 2017 due to power outage caused by a lightning strike. Very little details were released on the damage caused by the event and therefore, it is unsure on the restart date.

The cracker is designed to produce 1.1 million tons/year of ethylene and 860,000 tons/year of propylene. No information obtained on whether the shutdown would impact the downstream PE units, however, the upstream condensate splitter remain in operation at normal rate.
