According to market sources, the Sinopec-Kuwait Refinery project, a joint venture of a petrochemical complex worth $9 billion between China’s Sinopec Group and OPEC member Kuwait, has begun construction since last week (22 December 2016).

Based in southern city of Zhanjiang, China, the first phase of the long-planned mega project includes a 10 million tons/year refinery and a 800,000 tons/year ethylene complex which produces plastics, synthetics, rubber and fiber. The refinery is expected to be startup by end of 2019, and petrochemicals on beginning of 2020, whereby the products are mainly focusing on gasoline, diesel, aviation kerosene and polyethylene oil and chemical products.
