In Indonesia, a noteworthy development has unfolded as a local producer strategically lifted spot PP offers in their latest weekly price announcement to reflect the rebounding trend recorded across the regional market. However, the maker opted to roll over PE prices from the previous week – a calculated move in response to the demand conditions.

The increases on PP offers were very much anticipated by market participants considering the robust sales results recorded in this market over the past two weeks. Among the grades, PP thermoforming has been lifted twice since mid of last week, totalling a gain of IDR 640,000/ton on the back of tighter availability.
“For PP thermoforming, the prices were also driven by the technical issue at a local plant, leading to a 10% reduction in contractual quantity for December. Besides, demand for beverage cups is recovering, pushing customers to the spot market for replenishment,” a converter reported.
On the other hand, Indonesian customers are surprised to see new PE offers from the maker unchanged since mid-November 2023. This is especially true when local traders have been steadily lifting prices throughout the past couple of weeks.
